The Company

Oxbow is a team of practicing primary care physicians, expert database programmers, world-class interface designers, and security experts. Dr. Shawn Moyer and other physicians founded Oxbow out of frustration with the existing tools available to help record patient encounters. Oxbow reflects what real practicing physicians want in an EMR and the company who backs it, not what insurance companies or Uncle Sam thinks physicians need.

Our philosophy is simple: the practicing physician should be able to focus on patients not paperwork, medicine not administration. We designed the Oxbow system from the ground up to embody that philosophy and make the private practice life easier.

Existing EMR's seemed to do the opposite, adding work, complicating patient dialog, decreasing efficiency, and generally raising costs of running a practice. Oxbow created the first un-EMR to address the problems with the rest of the systems on the market. Finally, thanks to the first un-EMR, doctors now have the freedom to be great doctors.

When we set out to open our own practices, we dreamed of freedom from hospital control, patients who loved us, and time with our families. We researched every electronic medical record system we could find, searching for one that was both helpful for documentation while seeing patients and affordable for private practice. There was no such system.

United by our desire to implement a helpful and affordable medical record system at our practices and with nothing available that met our requirements, we designed the Oxbow EMR. We required of our team that the Oxbow EMR enable us to spend more time with patients but less time at the office, one that assured our permanent independence so we would never need a hospital to save us from our mounting admin costs. That meant it needed to cost less than it boosted revenue and be so fast and easy it was simpler than dictation or paper charts, while improving the patient experience. Happy patients are loyal patients who become our spokespeople, promoting us in our communities.

By using the Oxbow EMR, when an Oxbow doctor walks out of the room after seeing a patient, with none of the delays or costs of transcription, he or she is done with that patient and the superbill is ready to go. We can use that extra time to see more patients each day or spend more time with each patient. When the last patient leaves at the end of the day, we’re done with no extra paperwork or data entry hanging over my head. While this is the claimed goal of many systems, the reality is almost always quite different.

Hospitals now fawn over us to send them our patients instead of sending them to their competitor. We have the freedom, family time, and patient-love we believe most doctors dream of when they set out to open their own practices.

If you are a physician or practice manager at a private practice, we hope you will let us share our experience with you via a private webinar demo with one of us, Oxbow’s practicing physician-users.
